One More Time

A little late, here's that last blog prompt I promised you. I want you to grab the latest issue of The New York Review of Books somewhere on campus, skim through it, and tell me one article you would like to spend time with and why.

  1. I would like to spend some time with "Who is Barack Obama?". I find Obama's campaign and election very interesting, as he in a relatively new name in politics. Any information available about President Obama grabs my attention, simply because there isn't that much out there.

  2. I agree with Carson, everything on Obama is very interesting to me. It's not like my voice matters or anything but durring the election i thought that he was better than McCain but i'd still wouldnt vote for him. Obama did seem very smart and intelligent but i dont know what it is about him that i just feel fishy about him. I'm not trying to say that he's such a horrible president, i just wish there was more information on him, and i mean true information.

  3. This is really interesting to me. I just pulled up the cover pages online for The New York Times, the Washington Post, The Chicago Sun Times, the Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, the Huffington Post, and Time magazine; there are front page stories on the main page on in the politics section on every single one about Obama, his governing style, legislative challenges and the goals of his administration. I'm curious about the sense you guys have about there not being much information out there. Can you say more?

  4. The one article that I would choose to spend time on would be Israel’s Holy Warriors. I am always interested on what is going in the world. I like to have an open mind, and learn not only about America, but also about many other countries. Learning about all the different cultures in the world has always fascinated me. I really enjoy learning new things about cultures that are very different from mine. I also know that Israel has a very long history of war and conflicts. And I believe it is very important to know what is going on in our world. Sometimes we only pay attention to the problems in our own country, but in today’s global economy, I think it is very important to care about what happens all over the world.

  5. I think that the whole situation with all that he is doing and all the "untaken" care of business has really put President Obama on the cross-hairs of the American people. Now I know that since he is president everyone will take shots on him and criticize but there have been some things that have really made him unpopular. Now I was reading a little on the David Remnick article and some things were interesting. Now I am not a big fan of the president but that really doesn’t matter. I understand that he did "...waste a year..." but we have to understand that he is a NEW president. What president comes in with experience? Not many. Now, there have been some things that have not been taken care of and that really has not been good for him. In general I think that since the President is on the line now, everyone is demanding to know not who he "really" is but what he plans for the future of America. But why wasn’t it a BIG problem while he was running? This is just my opinion, but it was a pretty good article.

  6. Now for my opinion I think the article "They Fled from Our War" is a very interesting one. Shows the after affects of the war we left behind. Not only that, but it also shows the pain and suffering these people are going because of the same customs they live with. Not only are Iraqis hurt but also other people who in a way don’t "fit in" with the religion, customs, and life styles of the Iraqis. I just think in general this is a good article and shows us the reality of what is left behind.

  7. I would also be interested in "Who is Barack Obama?" Personally, I haven't paid much attention to politics. I listen to what everyone tells me, which probably isn't too smart. Some say the man isn't American while others say that he is. I'd like to read this article to get more into depth about who my president is. I think it would be very interesting. It's never a bad idea to be informed about who's running your country.
